Abdul Mohamed Joins North Texas For 2018-19 Season
DENTON – North Texas men’s basketball has signed junior college All-American Abdul Mohamed to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Grant McCasland announced Wednesday.
“We are excited to add Abdul to our Mean Green family,” McCasland said. “He has all the attributes we want in our program. Abdul can play multiple positions and is an experienced winner who has competed for championships at the junior college level. His feel for the game and high character will lead to great success on-and-off the court.”
Mohammed, a 6-foot-7 guard, played two seasons at Gillette College in Wyoming and averaged 15.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season. He was a NJCAA third team All-American and was named to the All-Region IX team.
In his sophomore season, Mohamed scored 20 points or more seven times, including a career-high 32 points against Little Big Horn with six three-pointers. He finished the year with 63 three-pointers made and was 89-for-124 (71.8 percent) from the free throw line. Mohamed led Gillette to a 27-5 overall record this season and were 32-4 during his freshman campaign.
Mohamed will have two years of eligibility remaining starting in the fall of 2018-19.
