Benford Signs All-Region Forward, Flannigan
Armani Flannigan Joins NT Hoops For 2013-14 Season
DENTON, Texas - North Texas head basketball coach Tony Benford has announced the signing of All-Region IX forward Armani Flannigan.
A versatile athlete and a proven commodity at Central WyomingState, Flannigan (6-8, 200, Jr., F, Rockford, Ill.) poured in 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last year. He ranked 67th in the country with a 56.4 percent shooting mark, and also averaged 1.6 steals, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks per game in 2012-13. His efforts earned him a second-team All-Region IX nod.
“We are very excited to have Armani join our basketball program,” Benford said. “He’s a tremendous person from a great family, and he fills an immediate need with our team. He has the athleticism of a player like Tony Mitchell, which means he can run the floor, rebound and score the basketball. I think he’s the kind of player that can average a double-double each night for this team, and we are ecstatic to have joining the Mean Green family.”
Flannigan tallied 20 double-digit scoring games last year, including three 20-plus point efforts. He also reached the 10-rebound plateau six times during his sophomore campaign.
As a freshman, Flannigan averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for Central Wyoming. He shot 63 percent (139-222) from the floor, and also tallied 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. In February of 2012, Flannigan scored a career high of 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and 10-of-15 from the free throw stripe, and added eight rebounds and three steals. He racked up 19 double-figure scoring games and had 10 or more rebounds four times.
Flannigan attended BoylanHigh School in Rockford, Ill., and averaged 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for the Titans as a senior, which earned him third-team All-State honors from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. He was also named an NIC-10 Conference All-Star.
Flannigan is the fourth member of the 2013-14 signing class, which was once ranked the No. 28 class in the nation by HoopScoopOnline.com.
