North Texas Signs Versatile Guard Larry Wise

DENTON – North Texas men’s basketball has signed three-star guard Larry Wise to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Grant McCasland announced today.

“We are thrilled to have Larry join the Mean Green family,” McCasland said. “His great character and outstanding qualities as a young man are a tribute to his family and exactly what our program is about.”

Wise, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, led Waxahachie High School to an impressive 33-5 record, including a perfect 16-0 in district play. Wise averaged 18 points per game helping the Indians to a District 10-5A title and advanced to the regional quarterfinals. For his efforts, Wise earned first team All-Region and first team All-State, awarded by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

“Larry is a tremendous guard with the ability to facilitate and score,” McCasland said. “The ideal combination of potential and production, Larry is a proven winner with experience winning championships.”

Wise was ranked No. 23 in the top-100 Texas players in the class of 2018 by TexasTop100.com and No. 27 among Texas players by TexasHoops.com.

In his junior year, Wise helped the Indians to a 29-6 record and advanced to the UIL state playoffs regional final. Wise was named TABC 5A All-Region and All-State after averaging 12.8 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game.

Wise held offers from Texas A&M, SMU, Tulsa and Middle Tennessee after being rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.
