Men's Basketball Signs Angelina College Transfer Shane Temara

JUCO transfer Shane Temara (Angelina College) joins the North Texas men's basketball team for the 2016-17 season. 

DENTON -- North Texas head men's basketball coach Tony Benford signed honorable mention All-Region XIV forward Shane Temara to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

An athletic versatile 6-foot-9 forward, Temara played one season for Angelina College averaging 11.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game in 31 games played. Temara, known for his ability to stretch the defense and hit an outside shot, was third in the conference in field goal percentage at 60.3 percent.

"We are extremely excited that Shane Temara will be joining our program next year," head coach Tony Benford said. "He is a very versatile player who can play inside and outside. Shane is highly skilled, a good shooter, athletic and can rebound."

A Syracuse, N.Y. native, Temara was sixth in offensive rebounds (86) and ninth in total rebounds (231) on the season. He finished his only season with Angelina College with 45 blocks, 25 assists, 14 steals and 358 total points showing how he can impact games. In his last eight games, Temara scored 17 points or more six times and had double-digit rebounds four times.

His career-best game came against Bossier Parish Community College scoring 25 points off 10-of-14 from the field and pulled down 12 rebounds. Temara came away with eight double-doubles leading Angelina to a 19-12 overall record. Temara recently was ranked one of the top 85 players in junior college by

"Shane has great character and has been well coached by coach Curtis Nash and Todd Neighbors at Angelina College," added Benford. "He also comes from a very athletic family where his father (Mike) played rugby on the New Zealand national team and his mother (Christine) played basketball at Syracuse."
