Jones, Brown Teaming Up For All-Star Game

DENTON, Texas – North Texas head basketball coach Johnny Jones will team up with legendary LSU coach Dale Brown in leading the West All-Stars in the Reese’s College All-Star Game on Friday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Jones was a standout point guard under Brown at LSU from 1981-84, helping the Tigers reach the 1981 Final Four. After a successful playing career, Jones joined Brown’s coaching staff and helped LSU return to the final four in 1986. The pair would coach together through the 1996-97 season, the last four of which saw Jones reach the rank of associate head coach.

On Friday, Jones will once again assist Brown in the fifth annual college showdown, which pits the nation’s top seniors in a high-profile showcase. Tipoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. and admission is free. TruTV will broadcast the event in its entirety at noon on Saturday, March 31, right before the national semifinals of the men's Final Four.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to sit next to coach Brown and assist him once again,” Jones said. “I consider it an honor for the opportunity to work with a group of such distinguished student-athletes prior to them going on to their professional careers.”

Since arriving at North Texas, Jones has guided North Texas to four of the last six Sun Belt Tournament title games - including the last three - and a pair of NCAA Tournament title berths. Jones and the Mean Green have averaged 21 wins per year over the last six seasons.

North Texas is no stranger to the Reece’s College All-Star Game, as Tristan Thompson played in the game last year. Thompson hit a driving floater in the lane with 49 seconds remaining to seal a 113-108 victory for the West at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
