Young Featured On CBS Evening News




DENTON (3/12/07) After helping lead the Mean Green to its first ever Sun Belt championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, senior Rich Young was featured on Monday night on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

 

Young - a former United States Marine who spent time in Kosovo, Iraq, and Africa is averaging 5.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game this season. He is the first ever Mean Green player and the only player in the Sun Belt this season to record 50 assists, 30 blocks, and 30 steals in a single season.

 

It was in the SBC championship game that Young notched one of the best performances of the year with 15 points, five assists, four blocks and two steals. He also threw in a pair of dunks that made their way onto numerous highlight reels.

 

Channel 11 in Dallas is the local CBS affiliate and will carry the broadcast. CBS is also the title network of the NCAA Tournament that begins on Tuesday. The Mean Green will open up with its first-round opponent Memphis in New Orleans on Friday.
