BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - North Texas forward Jeremy Combs led all Conference USA freshmen in rebounds, and was among the top five in scoring, field goal percentage, blocks and steals. On Tuesday, the Dallas native was named one of five players selected to the league's All-Freshman team.

"I personally think Jeremy was the best freshman in Conference USA this year, and his numbers speak to that," said North Texas head coach Tony Benford. "From rebounding to scoring, blocks and steals, Jeremy showed an all-around game that I feel was the best of all the freshmen in our league. He is the type of player that can be the cornerstone of our program for years to come."

Combs averaged 9.8 points and pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game, which ranked 11th among all players in C-USA. His 57.0 field goal percentage ranked second among freshmen in C-USA, but was sixth overall in the conference.

North Texas' top scoring and rebounding performances belonged to Combs, who racked up a team-season-high 25 points against Langston and had multiple 13-rebound performances. Combs was at his best in an 18-point outing in the win at Rice, and was the difference in the win over No. 1 seed LA Tech with 16 points and 13 boards.

Combs joins a list of great NT freshmen to earn league honors this century. While C-USA is the first conference NT has been apart of that names an all-freshman team, Tony Mitchell, Josh White and Chris Davis were named freshman of the year in their respective conferences.

Combs and the Mean Green face No. 9 seed Rice on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala. The game will be broadcast on the American Sports Network, which has a free webcast on their website - AmericanSportsNet.com.
