Welcoming The 2007 Sun Belt Conference Champions

DENTON (3/7/07) - Mean Green fans, cheerleaders, dancers and pep band welcomed the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Champions as the team arrived back on campus Wednesday afternoon after winning the conference championship.

A police escort led the team bus to the Super Pit where a couple hundred fans waited to greet the team. The Mean Green left Lafayette early Wednesday morning after defeating Arkansas State in the championship game of the Sun Belt tournament on Tuesday night.

With the Mean Green pep band playing the North Texas fight song, head coach Johnny Jones stepped off the bus first, carrying the Sun Belt trophy and the net from the Cajun Dome. The coaches and players made their way up to the stage where Jones, tournament MVP Calvin Watson and senior Ben Bell spoke to the crowd. North Texas Athletic Director Rick Villarreal and University President Gretchen Bataille also spoke.

"I could not be more proud of these kids," said head coach Johnny Jones. "I saw the look in their eyes before the game and knew we were ready. They left it all out there, that's all I could want."
