DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team finishes the 2016-17 season with a road matchup at Marshall Saturday, March 4, at 6 p.m. (CT).

The Mean Green (8-21, 2-15 C-USA) will try to spoil senior night for Marshall coming off a 74-63 loss at Western Kentucky on March 2. Senior guard J-Mychal Reese led the team in scoring with 14 points and earned his 1,000th career collegiate point against WKU. Derail Green and Ryan Woolridge each chipped in with nine points apiece.

Freshman guard A.J. Lawson is seven points away from scoring the fifth highest output by a freshman in North Texas history.

Lawson leads the team and C-USA freshmen in scoring at 10.9 points per game. Reese sits second in scoring at 10.4 points per game and leads the team in assists at 3.1 per game (89 total). Woolridge is fourth in scoring at 9.6 points per game in 20 games played.

Saturday’s final game against the Thundering Herd will be the last for Reese and Green. Green leads the Mean Green with 52 three-pointers and Reese will make his 60th start in a North Texas uniform. He has scored 762 career points and has dished out 207 career assists with the Mean Green.

About the Opponent: Marshall
• This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams. Marshall leads the all-time series 3-1, including two-straight wins.

• In the last meeting, Marshall scored 61 first-half points and defeated North Texas 97-78 on Jan. 14, 2016. Jeremy Combs had 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. J-Mychal Reese finished with 14 points and Ja’Michael Brown added 14 points. Marshall hit 14 three-pointers, including 10 in the first half.

• In the previous meeting in Huntington, Marshall came away with a 8-73 victory against North Texas on Feb. 7, 2015. Jordan Williams had 23 points and Colin Voss finished with 17 for the Mean Green. The Thundering Herd had six players in double-figures.

• Marshall enters with a 16-14 overall record and are 9-8 in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd are currently sitting tied for sixth in the C-USA standings.

• Marshall is led by senior guard Jon Elmore who has started all 30 games and is averaging 20.3 points per game. Elmore leads the team in assists with 184 and is second with 67 three-pointers. Stevie Browning (15.7 per game) and Ryan Taylor (14.5 per game) are Marshall’s other top scorers.

• Marshall leads the C-USA in scoring at 85.8 points per game and first in three-pointers made per game (10). Austin Loop has made a team-best 95 three-pointers, he has only taken 10 two-point shots.
