DENTON -- The North Texas men’s basketball team is gaining momentum after a home sweep last weekend and will face their toughest road test Thursday, Feb. 25 at LA Tech aired live on the American Sports Network at 8 p.m.

Four games remain in the race for the Conference USA regular season championship. The Mean Green sit in a three-way tie for seventh place and just two games behind sixth place Old Dominion. LA Tech has a half game lead for the fourth seed with a 9-5 C-USA record.

North Texas is 6-8 in league play but holds an impressive 5-2 record at home against C-USA opponents. NT is looking for its second road win of the season Thursday night against the Bulldogs who have only lost once against Old Dominion.

The Mean Green is coming off a wire-to-wire victory against FAU last weekend to complete the Florida sweep. North Texas used steady free throw shooting (17 of 25) and 50 combined points from the big three of sophomore Jeremy Combs (17 points), junior J-Mychal Reese (14 points) and classmate Deckie Johnson (19 points). Freshman Rickey Brice Jr. added eight points off the bench in 15 minutes.

Combs leads the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game and in rebounding at 10.7 per game. The Dallas native is 14th in the nation in rebounds per game and 13th in total rebounds (288). Combs is closing in on a couple of North Texas single-season records sitting eighth best with 288 rebounds and seventh best in field goal percentage at 59.6.

Reese is second on the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and leads the team in assists at 4.0 per game (109 total). His 109 total assists is 12 shy of 10th best in school history with at least four games remaining. Johnson is third at 14.5 points per game and has hit a team best 62 made three pointers. His 62 triples is currently tied for eighth best and is eight away from being fourth all-time.

As a team, North Texas is 83rd in the nation in field goal percentage (46.0), 15th in free throw attempts (729) and 51st in free throws made (464).

The Mean Green will finish the road trip at Southern Mississippi Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
