Dennis Pours In 24 Points In Mean Green Victory

DENTON (2/23/08) Collin Dennis put together another great performance against Arkansas State, scoring 24 points in an 82-77 win against the Indians on Saturday night in the Super Pit.

 

The Mean Green improved to 18-9 and 9-7 in the Sun Belt. North Texas finished its home season with a 14-2 record, which matches the most home wins in Super Pit history. NT swept ASU in the series this season and has won the last three meetings, but the Indians (9-19, 4-13) hold the advantage in the all-time series, 16-12.

 

Dennis scored 24 points in tonight’s win, hitting a career high six three-pointers. He went 9-for-12 from the field and 6-for-7 from three-point range. He scored 30 points in the 74-63 win against ASU in January.

 

Josh White joined him in the 20-point category with 23 points. Quincy Williams, Keith Wooden and Ben Bell all had great performances on Senior Night. Williams posted a double-double with 10 points and10 rebounds. Wooden scored 15 points, the most he has scored in a game since recording 17 points against Texas in December. Bell tied a season high with seven assists. He scored six points.

 

The Mean Green had a great shooting night, hitting 55.1 percent of its shots from the field. NT had only two other better shooting performances (against Hartford and Southern) this season. NT shot 64.3 percent from three-point range, which ties for fourth in school history. North Texas and ASU each hit 27 field goals in the game and both teams recorded 30 rebounds.

 

The Mean Green held a slight edge in free throws. North Texas hit 19 free throws, while ASU went 15-for-19. White went 8-for-10 from the charity stripe in the last two minutes of the game.

 

North Texas used a 17-4 run in the first half to build a double-digit lead, 37-24. White led the team in the first half with 10 points.

 

ASU opened the second half with a 37-27 run to cut the NT lead to one point, 52-51, with 10:02 left in the game. The Mean Green responded with a 21-12 run, which included eight points from Dennis. The Indians outscored the Mean Green, 14-9, in the final two minutes. All nine Mean Green points came from the free throw line.

 

North Texas finishes its regular season on the road with two games. Next up is Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 7:05 pm.
