DENTON (2/22/07) - The North Texas men's and women's basketball teams are both in action tonight against Arkansas State in the Super Pit. The doubleheader starts at 5 pm with the women playing the Indians.
With wins in its last two outings, the North Texas men (18-9, 9-7) look to even its season series against Arkansas State on senior night. Tipoff against the Indians, who knocked off North Texas 84-60 in January is scheduled for 7 pm and can be heard on the Mean Green Radio Network.
The North Texas women (8-18, 5-11) enters the game with some momentum coming off its best win of the season on Monday night over Western Kentucky. Arkansas State has won four of its past five games and is still vying for the West Division title with two games remaining.
The ASU men maintain a 15-9 hold on the all-time series between the two programs, and own a 6-4 clip at The Super Pit. The Indians have won three of the last four games against North Texas, but the Mean Green took the Jan. 21, 2006 meeting 82-79 after rallying from a 10-point second-half defi cit. Adrian Banks led five players in double fi gures in knocking off the Mean Green 84-60 in the Jan. 6 meeting in Jonesboro. The transfer poured in 26 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
Calvin Watson became North Texas’ all-time leader in made threepoint field goals when he connected on the 190th of his career in the second half of the win over UALR. The senior passes Chris Davis (189, 1999-03) to move into the top spot in the record books. Watson has hit 72 from beyond the arc this year, which ranks third in school history only six shy of passing Davis (77, 1999-00) for second on the single season list. He currently ranks fifth with 184 three pointers attempted this season and third with 488 career attempts. Watson’s career 38.9 three-point percentage ranks third in school history.
Senior DiDi Wali will suit up for the final time in a North Texas uniform at the Super Pit against Arkansas State. Wali’s career at North Texas has included a West Division title, 52 wins, five double figure scoring games, and 23 3-pointers. Wali, who has already received her degree in economics and is working on a master’s degree, is the only senior on the North Texas roster.
