Woolridge Earns Second-Straight C-USA Freshman Of The Week

Feb. 20, 2017

DENTON – North Texas freshman guard Ryan Woolridge repeated as Conference USA Freshman of the Week after averaging 14 points, 7 assists, 8 rebounds, and 5.5 steals in two games last week. Awards are chosen by a vote from a media panel representing the 14 member schools.

Woolridge becomes the first freshman at North Texas to win back-to-back weekly awards since Tony Mitchell won two weeks in a row during the 2011-12 season. The Mean Green have won C-USA Freshman of the Week for three weeks in a row.

Woolridge finished one assist shy of a triple-double against UTEP with 15 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. The last triple-double recorded at North Texas was in 1993 by Jesse Ratliff, who is the third all-time leading scorer.

The Mansfield, Texas, native helped North Texas defeat UTSA with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and recorded eight swipes (one shy of tying the school record). Woolridge also finished the week shooting 10-for-15 (66.7 percent) from the field and earned his first double-double against UTEP. This is Woolridge’s second C-USA Freshman of the Week honor.

North Texas remains home to face second place Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.
