DENTON -- The North Texas men’s basketball team will have a chance to move up in the Conference USA standings when they face FIU Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. inside the Super Pit.

The Mean Green have six C-USA games remaining and are currently tied for 10th place with a 4-8 record. North Texas trails FIU by only a game and a half in the standings so Thursday’s contest against the Panthers will be critical for positioning in the upcoming C-USA tournament.

NT (9-16, 4-8 C-USA) enters off a tough road trip falling at Old Dominion, 67-47, and at Charlotte, 103-79, last weekend. Sophomore Jeremy Combs had a nice week earning his eighth double-double in conference play with 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds at ODU. He followed that performance with a game high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds at Charlotte. Junior guard J-Mychal Reese scored in double figures twice with his best game coming at Charlotte with 18 points and dished out four assists. Reese became the first Mean Green student-athlete to hand out 100 assists in a season since Chris Jones in the 2013-14 season.

Combs leads the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game and in rebounding at 10.6 per game. The Dallas native is 15th in the nation in rebounds per game and 13th in total rebounds (264). Reese is second on the team in scoring at 14.8 points per game and leads the team in assists at 4.0 per game (101 total). Classmate Deckie Johnson is third at 13.5 points per game and has hit a team best 52 made three pointers.

As a team, North Texas is 70th in the nation in field goal percentage (46.3), 17th in free throw attempts (675) and 78th in free throws made (425).

The Mean Green will finish the homestand by taking on FAU Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Super Pit.

Hoops Win Streak At Four After NT Runs Away From FIU In Miami
With 6-11 shot-blocker extrordanaire Adrian Diaz roaming the paint for FIU, NT needed a big game from forward Colin Voss and the NT perimeter. NT got that and more in a 70-56 win at FIU Arena.
