DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team suffered a tough overtime loss against WKU on Thursday, Feb. 15, and will look to bounce back by hosting Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (14-12, 7-6 C-USA) continue to sit tied for fifth in the C-USA standings with five games remaining in the race to Frisco. North Texas must defeat Marshall on Saturday if they hope to earn a top-four seed bye into the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament hosted in Frisco. The Thundering Herd hold a two game lead at 9-4.

In the 102-94 loss against WKU, sophomore guard Roosevelt Smart finished with 22 points and hit six three-pointers to push his single-season school record to 97 and is tied for fourth in the nation with Oklahoma freshman Trae Young. Smart also became the 20th North Texas student-athlete to top 500 points or more in a season with 509 total points.

Sophomore Ryan Woolridge chipped in with 17 points and dished out seven assists to give him 153 for the season. Woolridge is four assists away from having the third-most in school history and is 24th in the nation.

Redshirt sophomore DJ Draper has continued to give North Texas stellar play off the bench with 14 points against WKU. Draper is fifth in the Conference in three-point percentage during league games at 44.8 percent.

The Mean Green will embark on their final road trip of the season next week when they head to Miami to face FIU on Thursday, Feb. 22.

About the Opponent: Marshall
• This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams with Marshall leading 4-1 and hold a 1-0 record at the Super Pit.

• In the previous meeting, North Texas fell in a heartbreaker on the road 106-104 on March 4, 2017 in the final game of the 2016-17 season. Five players finished in double-figures with A.J. Lawson leading the way with 26 points. J-Mychal Reese added 25 points and Derail Green scored 16 points. Marshall’s Jon Elmore had 19 points and six assists.

• In the last meeting at the Super Pit, Marshall scored 61 first-half points and cruised to a 97-78 win on Jan. 14, 2016. Despite Jeremy Combs 28 points and 18 rebounds, the Thundering Herd hit 10 three-pointers in the first half. Jon Elmore scored 21 points with eight assists.

• Marshall enters with an 18-8 overall record and is 9-4 in Conference play having won four-straight games. The Thundering Herd defeated Rice, 93-80, on Feb. 15. Junior guard C.J. Burks scored a career-high 36 points and was 6-for-7 from the three-point line.

• Senior Jon Elmore leads the team in scoring at 22.2 points per game and is first in the C-USA. Elmore is second on the team in rebounding (6.1) and has dished out 183 assists to lead the C-USA (7.0). Burks is second in scoring at 21.2 points per game and is third in the Conference. Burks has hit a team-best 69 three-pointers. Junior Ajdin Penava leads the nation in blocks at 4.6 per game.

• The Thundering Herd leads the C-USA in scoring at 85 points per game and are 16th in the nation. Marshall is last in defense giving up 79.6 points per game. Marshall is first in assists at 17.5 as a team and second in three-pointers made averaging 10 per contest.
