Hoops Or Engineering; For Campbell It's No Contest
Junior Guard Takes Break From Hardwood To Concentrate On Engineering Studies
North Texas (9-13, 3-7 C-USA) vs. UAB (13-11, 9-2 C-USA)
DENTON - North Texas student-athletes are not only dedicated to their sport, but also to their academic goals. Junior basketball player Chris Campbell transferred to North Texas in the fall of 2014 and took a break from basketball for much of the fall season to focus on his academics.
Campbell had basketball scholarship offers to other schools, but turned them down to come to UNT as a walk on because of the engineering department. Professor Dr. Vincent Lopes impacted much of Campbell’s first semester here at North Texas with his physics lectures.
The way the professors teach, interact and understand student-athletes has been a great impact at North Texas. Although Campbell loves the game of basketball, his passion for engineering is his number one priority. North Texas professors help and develop student-athletes on and off the field because it is a huge adjustment in learning how to balance both athletics and academics.
