DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team heads to the sunshine state starting with Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. (CT) at the FAU arena.

The Mean Green (6-16, 0-10) have just eight Conference USA games left and trail FAU in the standings by four games. North Texas fell behind 20-4 against Rice and lost 95-80 despite freshman guard A.J. Lawson’s career-high 31 points off the bench. Lawson, the reigning C-USA Freshman of the Week, went 10-of-15 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds. Classmate Ryan Woolridge added a career-high 21 points and was 5-for-6 from the 3-point line.

Lawson leads North Texas in scoring at 11.1 points per game and is the top scoring freshman in the C-USA (244 points). Senior guard J-Mychal Reese is third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game and leads the team in assists (3.5 per game). Woolridge is fourth in scoring at 8.9 points per game in 13 games played.

North Texas hit seven 3-pointers against Rice in the first game towards the Coaches vs. Cancer 3-point challenge. The Mean Green are taking donations for every 3-point shot the team makes during the 3-point challenge campaign, Feb. 1 – March 5.

The campaign is fun and easy to get involved in. Just go to pledgeit.org/cvc-north-texas and make your pledge today. Help our school become a 3-point challenge champion over other rival schools and help save lives from cancer at the same time by raising donations for 3-pointers during games.
