The Pit Crew started this basketball season as a way for the student body to come together and cheer on the Mean Green basketball team. The Pit Crew consists of the entire student section at the Super Pit, with students congregating in sections 122 and 123.

Through 12 home games this season, the Mean Green has compiled an 11-1 home record that includes wins over Tulsa and most recently Western Kentucky. The Pit Crew has molded itself after some of the best student sections in the nation and has provided its own tradition at the Super Pit. The Pit Crew gains momentum and energy as the game intensifies and through that process is able to provide a loud student atmosphere that the players feed off of.

“I feel the fans and players have all been affected by the Pit Crew. The players constantly play their best as they are cheered on and the fans are able to watch a great team play a fantastic game,” said Michael Maher, Soph. Talons member.

In Saturday’s close game it was the Pit Crew that helped provide the push for the Mean Green to register its first victory over Western Kentucky at the Super Pit.

The Pit Crew meets before each home game at Gate H to prepare for another rowdy Mean Green Basketball game. At Gate H students can pick up FREE giveaways ranging from foam noodles to green cowboy hats. Talons will also be on hand painting faces and giving Mean Green tattoos. Mean Green fans will also be able to check out a wide variety of oversized “brick” signs and famous faces that range from David Hasselhoff to Paris Hilton.

A short pregame meeting will take place 30 minutes prior to tip-off to go over the cheer sheet for the game. The cheer sheets - which can be picked up at Gate H or found on meangreensports.com - contain a multitude of cheers used throughout the game. After the pregame meeting the Pit Crew will take their seats to begin cheering on the Mean Green.

The Mean Green will be hosting the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday, February 8th at 7 pm at the Super Pit. The basketball team is currently in second place in the Western Division of the Sun Belt Conference and are quickly closing in on first place. The Pit Crew will be out in full force Thursday night to cheer on the Mean Green to a victory over New Orleans.
