New Orleans Snaps Mean Green's Winning Streak At The Super Pit

DENTON (1/17/07) Bo McCalebb scored 23 points to lead the New Orleans men’s basketball team to an 83-61 victory against North Texas on Thursday night at the Super Pit.


The Privateers (13-5, 3-3 Sun Belt) snapped the Mean Green’s three-game winning streak and held North Texas to its lowest scoring total all season. North Texas (12-5, 3-3) also lost its first game at home. The Mean Green is now 9-1 at the Super Pit.


On a night when he became the Sun Belt’s all-time leading scorer with 2,332 points, McCalebb led four Privateers in double figures. He went 8-for-15 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He and Kyndall Dykes combined for 45 of NO’s 83 points.


New Orleans led by five at the half and outscored the Mean Green in the second half, 52-35. The Mean Green went cold in the second half, going 7-of-28 from the field. Dez Willingham and Collin Dennis hit three three-pointers in the last four minutes but they were unable to make up ground.


After North Texas cut the New Orleans’ lead to three points, 45-42, at the 13:03 mark in the second half, the Privateers went on a 31-5 run. Asrangue Souleymane capped the run with a free throw that put New Orleans ahead by 29 points, 76-47, with 5:33 left in the game.


North Texas was hurt by its 32.5 percent shooting from the field in the game and 20 turnovers. New Orleans forced 10 Mean Green steals. The Privateers shot 52.8 percent from the field and were 13-for-20 in the second half.


Dennis led three Mean Green players in double figures. Dennis posted 17 points, while Willingham followed with 14. Quincy Williams posted his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.


North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 when it faces Florida Atlantic on the road.
