DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team travels to Houston for a Conference USA matchup against Rice on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. inside the Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Mean Green (6-10, 0-4 C-USA) enter with a five-game losing streak after dropping both C-USA games last week against UAB (54-52) and Middle Tennessee (79-68). Sophomore guard Ja’Michael Brown tied his career high with 21 points (7-for-12) and grabbed five rebounds against the Blue Raiders. Freshman guard A.J. Lawson had a perfect shooting night with 14 points off 5-for-5 from the field.

The Mean Green had a solid three-point shooting game against Middle Tennessee going 8-for-14 (57.1) but couldn’t get enough stops on the defensive end. The Blue Raiders big three of Giddy Potts (18 points), JaCorey Williams (16 points) and Reggie Upshaw (14 points) combined to score 48 of their 79.

Junior forward Jeremy Combs leads the team in scoring (10.9 per game) coming off two 10-point games against UAB and Middle Tennessee. Lawson is third in scoring at 9.4 points per game and is second in steals with 16. Senior guard J-Mychal Reese leads the team in assists at 3.6 per game (55 total) and is fourth on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game.

The Mean Green are fourth in the C-USA in scoring defense only allowing 67.6 points per game and are trying to figure out their offensive woes being 12th in scoring offense at 64.7 points per game. In contrast, Rice is giving up the third most points in league play at 74.8.

2017 C-USA Basketball All-Session Tickets are now available. UAB will again be hosting the Conference Tournament from March 8th-11th, 2017.

The Men's Tournament will take place at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC. The Women's First Round and Quarterfinals will be held at Bartow Arena with the Semifinals and Finals at Legacy Arena.

• $100 for Baseline Reserved (Lower Level behind the end lines)

All Session tickets include all 6 sessions at Legacy Arena as well as the Women's 1st round and quarterfinals at Bartow Arena. All Tickets will be allocated by priority beginning December 30th. About the Opponent: Rice

• This will be the 20th meeting between the two teams. North Texas leads the all-time series with a 13-6 record and is just 3-4 in games played in Houston.

• In the last meeting, Rice scored 95 points and held off North Texas 95-87 at Tudor Fieldhouse on Jan 30, 2016. Mean Green starters scored 84 of the 87 points with Jeremy Combs recording his seventh-straight double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds. J-Mychal Reese had 23 points off 8-of-17 shooting.

• Rice is 11-6 on the season and 1-3 in league play after two-straight losses at home last week against Middle Tennessee (80-77) and UAB (88-81 OT). The Owls own a 7-3 home record but have lost three of their last four games.

• Rice is led by sophomore sensation Marcus Evans who has already scored 1,000 career points in just 49 games (Conference USA record). Evans is putting up 18.6 points per game and has been to the free throw line 125 times (91 makes). Junior guard Egor Koulechov leads the team in scoring (19.6 per game) and three-pointers (42-for-79). Koulechov has two games of 30-plus points and 10 rebounds or more this season.

• The Owls are the second leading offense in the C-USA at 82.8 points per game.
