JONESBORO, Ark. (1/6/07) Five players scored in double figures led by Adrian Banks who scored a game-high 26 points to pace Arkansas State past the North Texas (11-5, 2-3) basketball team 84-60 at the Convocation Center. The Indians (8-9, 3-2) shot the ball 68 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away from the Mean Green.
“Arkansas State did a great job tonight, the came back home and played exceptionally well,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. “We didn’t come close to playing to the level that we have done so throughout the year and didn’t do the little things that we have been doing this season”.
North Texas raced out to an early 10-5 lead in the first five minutes of the game before the Indians responded with a 16-5 run to take 21-15 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first half.
The Mean Green trailed by six at 27-21 with five minutes to play in the first half when Arkansas State took control of the game. Banks powered a 14-0 run by Arkansas State to make it 41-21 and the Indians never looked back.
The Mean Green made one final charge in the second half with an 8-0 to get to within 12 points at 59-47 with eight minutes remaining. Arkansas State came back with back-to-back 3-pointers to extend its lead to 65-47.
Kendrick Davis, making his first start since returning from the hand injury, led the Mean Green with a team-high 18 points. Calvin Watson had nine points off the bench and hit a 3-pointer in his 23rd consecutive game.
North Texas is back in action on Thursday, January 11 when they host Louisiana-Lafayette at the Super Pit.
