DENTON – The North Texas men’s basketball team returns home to host UAB on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. inside the Super Pit broadcasted on ESPN3.

The Mean Green are 6-8, 0-2 in Conference USA play after dropping two C-USA road games last week. North Texas had a strong defensive game against Old Dominion but just couldn’t get enough shots to fall in a 55-48 loss. Senior guard J-Mychal Reese finished with 12 points, four assists and zero turnovers. Graduate student Derail Green added 12 points off the bench after going 4-for-7 from the three-point line.

Junior Jeremy Combs continues to lead the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game and in rebounding at 6.8 per game. Combs has played in 10 of 14 games and had 11 rebounds at ODU on Jan. 2. Freshman guard A.J. Lawson is third on the team in scoring at 9.5 points per game and classmate Ryan Woolridge is fourth in scoring at 9.4 points per game in five games played. Reese leads the team in assists at 3.7 per game (49 total).

North Texas has been playing 10 or 11 players during the last five games. In the last game against ODU, 12 players saw action and seven players contributed a basket. The deep bench allowed the Mean Green to outscore ODU’s bench 23-15 on Jan. 2.

The Mean Green are 6-3 at the Super Pit this season and have earned 11 home wins in each of the last two seasons (11-7 in 2015-16, 11-6 in 2014-15).
