North Texas Drops Final Road Non-Conference Game At Creighton
Four Players Finished In Double Figures In The Loss

OMAHA, Neb. – The North Texas men’s basketball team scored 82 points but Creighton scored 105 to cruise to victory in front of 17,518 fans at the Century Link Center Monday night on Fox Sports 1.
“I give a lot of credit to Creighton tonight,” head coach Tony Benford said. “We committed a lot of fouls tonight and didn’t play well defensively letting their post players get easy baskets. We have to continue to get better with conference play right around the corner. If you score 82 points you need to find a way to win those ball games.”
The Mean Green held a prolific three-point shooting team to just 4-of-17 from downtown but Creighton went to the free throw line 40 times making 29. North Texas falls to 4-8 on the season with the loss and the BlueJays improved to 8-4.
Four players finished in double figures with junior J-Mychal Reese leading the way with 20 points, including 18 in the second half. Reese dished out five assists and was 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Junior Deckie Johnson had 16 points and hit two three pointers along with four assists. Sophomore Jeremy Combs chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman Allante Holston had eight points off the bench thanks to a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Classmate Ja’Michael Brown finished with 12 points off 4-of-7 from the field. North Texas went 23-for-32 from the free throw line.
Creighton built a 54-39 lead at halftime thanks to 29 free throw attempts in the first half. The BlueJays fifth-year senior Geoffrey Groselle had 15 points (9-for-10 at the foul line) at the half. Johnson kept the Mean Green close with 10 first half points.
The BlueJays held a comfortable margin the entire game leading by as much as 25 points in the second half. Creighton dominated points in the pant outscoring North Texas 56-to-34 and lead the way with 18 fast break points.
With the win, Creighton leads the all-time series with a 6-5 record.
North Texas will have an eight day break for the holidays before hosting Sam Houston State on Dec. 29 at the Super Pit at 8 p.m.
