Cross Country Signs Texas Native Olivia Zint

Dec. 1, 2016

DENTON – The North Texas women’s cross country team has announced the signing of Texas native Olivia Zint to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 season.

“We're excited to have Olivia Zint join both our cross country and Track & Field teams,” cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “Olivia is a great fit for our program because she has already shown great mid-distance abilities running the 800 meters and competes in the 4x400m relay. She also has had great success in cross country.”

Zint ran cross country and track for Pottsboro High School in Pottsboro, TX. In 2016, Zint set a personal-best in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17 in the TX UIL 3A state championships placing third. She also came in fourth in the 1600m with a personal best time of 5:16.

“This will make her a great fit for how we will train her to be an outstanding cross country runner over 5000 meters and 6000m where she has lot of potential moving up from the two-mile distance they race at the 3A high school level,” Slekis said. “She will also be a strong addition on the track in the 800m, 1500m, and mile.”

In cross country, Zint holds the two mile school record with a time of 11:44 set at the 2016 UIL 3A state championship in November. She placed second with a personal-best time of 11:57 at the UIL 3A Region 2 championship in October.

“Olivia is positive and enthusiastic about her drive to be better in our sport and in academics which is something we look for in all of the women who join our team,” Slekis said. “I enjoyed getting to know the Zint family during the recruiting process and we're excited to have them join the Mean Green family as they have been so supportive of Olivia in her cross country and track pursuits.”

Zint will join a women’s cross country team that finished sixth at the Conference USA championships and returns first team all-conference runner Susannah Lynch.
