DENTON, Texas - The North Texas cross country team heads to Waco, Texas, for the 2013 NCAA South Central Regional Championships this Friday.

The men’s championship 10K starts at 10 a.m., the women’s 6K at 11:15 a.m., and the awards ceremony will follow. The race will take place on the Cottonwood Golf Course, and admission is five dollars.

The Mean Green men finished second at the Conference USA Championships and the women took a third-place team finish.

"The men and women are both looking great after the Conference USA Championships,” said coach Stefanie Slekis. “They have trained all season for tomorrow's 10k race for the men and the women's 6k, this is a very strong group and that will show over the longer distance.”

The men are striving toward improving their 13th place finish from last year, as they enter ranked sixth by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, and the women are looking to improve upon their 17th place finish as they go into regionals ranked ninth in the polls.

“Both teams are ranked just outside of our ultimate team goal for the season, and each athlete knows what they need to do individually for the team to achieve those goals,” said Slekis.
