Cross Country To Compete In Regional Meet At Baylor

DENTON, Texas (11/13/08) The North Texas cross country teams head to Waco this Saturday for the NCAA South Central Regional with hopes of earning a trip to the NCAA Championships later this month.

North Texas was quite successful at the Sun Belt Conference Championship as the men’s team finished third and the women’s team placed fourth.

Patrick Strong stole the show with a third place finish in the 8k race and according to head coach Robert Vaughan has the best chance to earn a trip to Terre Haute, Indiana on Nov. 24 because of his endurance. Joining Strong this Saturday will be Brandon Cooper, Garrett Sage, Billy Giano and Josue Nunez.

Sara Dietz came on strong towards the end of the season and she capped it off with a 10th place finish for the women at the SBC Championship, earning Freshman of the Year honors. She will be joined by Amy Alcala, Phanice Orora, Tara Piles, Alex Sherwin and Jessica Torres.

Saturday’s races will begin at 10 a.m., beginning with the women’s 6,000 meters. The men will follow at 10:45 a.m. in the 10,000 meter race. The event will be held at Baylor University.
