Mean Green Finishes Strong at NCAA Cross Country Regionals

Waco (11-13-04) - The North Texas Cross Country team finished the 2004 season with strong performances from Jill Brennan and Justin Kauffman at the NCAA South Central Regional Meet at Baylor University.

Brennan finished as the Sun Belt Conference’s top performer at the meet, earning 49th place with a time of 22:24 in the 6k race. An all-conference selection, Brennan finished fourth at the conference championships two weeks ago.

Kauffman, the lone representative for the Mean Green men, finished 61st with a time of 32:51. Kauffman also took home all-conference honors at the Sun Belt Championships, but ran his fastest 10k time of the season at the regionals.

“This was a great way to end the season,” said head coach Rick Watkins. “The girls all ran their best race of the year and Justin ran his fastest time of the season. I think we have a lot to build on for next season.”

Cassie Storms and Dagmar Salazar also notched top 100 finishes in the meet. Storms took 88th place with a time of 23:20 and Salazar finished 95th in 23:30.

Jordan Skelton rounded out the field for the Mean Green with a 124th place finish in a time of 25:35.

The runners will return to action in January when the track and field indoor season hits full stride. The first meet of the season will be January 22 at the OU Indoor Classic in Norman, OK.
