DENTON, Texas (11/12/09) - After finishing third and fourth respectively at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the North Texas women's and men's cross country teams will travel to Waco this weekend to compete in the NCAA South Central Regional at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on Saturday.
The meet will get started at 10 a.m. beginning with the women's race, followed by the men at 11 a.m.
The Mean Green women enter the weekend with a lot of momentum after their highest finish at the conference championship since 2003. Even more impressive, the women are currently ranked 12th in the South Central Region, their highest ranking in school history.
Participants on the women's side this weekend will include Amy Alcala, Sallie Anderson, Haley Cowan, Sara Dietz, Amanda Kean, Ingrid Mollenkopf, Jessica Torres and Sarah Workman. Last time out Mollenkopf (12th), Dietz (16th), Anderson (17th) and Kean (18th) all placed in the top 20.
The men's team meanwhile finished fourth at the Sun Belt Championship and was anchored once again by junior Patrick Strong. The New Zealand native has been the top finisher for the Mean Green in each race he's been a part of since 2007. Joining him this weekend will be seniors Matthew Peters and Garrett Sage.
The top two teams from each of the nine NCAA regionals, along with 13-at-large teams, earn bids to the NCAA Championships. Individually, the top four runners not on a qualifying team can earn a bid as well.
