DENTON, Texas- Mean Green cross country heads to Waco, Texas for the 2011 NCAA South Central Regional, which takes place at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course at 10 a.m.
The North Texas women are looking to use the momentum they gained two weeks ago at the Sun Belt Conference Championships where they nabbed a runner-up finish.
"I think everyone is ready to get down to Waco and show what they have," cross country coach Sam Burroughs said. "On the girls' side, they have a lot to build off of with a great showing at conference and the guys have a lot to prove."
The women's second place finish at the SBC Championships (74 points) was the best finish for a Mean Green women's cross country team since 1989 when North Texas won the Southland Conference Championship with a total of 48 points.
Senior Ingrid Mollenkopf placed third overall and fellow senior Sara Dietz wasn't far behind as she grabbed sixth place. Both were part of the Sun Belt All-Conference team for their efforts.
The men finished seventh overall at the conference meet with senior Michael Sandoval crossing the line first for the Mean Green in 24th.
The top two teams from each region will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Terre Hautte, IN.
The South Central Regions consists of teams from Arkansas, Louisiana and central and eastern Texas.
