Cross Country Breaks Through At Sam Houston State Invitational

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (10-18-08) Both the men and women’s cross country teams had a successful Saturday morning at the Sam Houston State University Invitational, finishing second and third respectively.

Sophomore Patrick Strong finished in second place in the 6200 meter run with a time of 19:01.90, his second consecutive second place finish. Billy Giano also had a strong race by finishing seventh with a time of 19:31.10.

Brandon Cooper also placed in the top 20 with a time of 20:04.90, finishing in 19th place.

McNeese State edged North Texas for first place with 52 points, compared to 65 for the Mean Green. Houston Baptist, Texas A&M and Houston rounded out the top five.

On the women’s side Sarah Dietz finished third in the 4k with a time of 14:24.60. Houston took home first place with 18 total points, followed by McNeese State’s 75 and North Texas came in third with 93.

Phanice Orora was the women’s next best finisher, coming in 19th place with a time of 15:21.10.

This was the final meet before the Sun Belt Conference Championship on November 1. That meet will take place in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
