Cross Country Fares Well In Season's Final Tune Up

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. (10/15/05) - The North Texas cross country teams turned in top-notch performances in the season's final tune-up meet at the Chile Pepper Invitational, one of the nation's largest races of the season.


The men's team finished 22nd out of 35 teams and the women notched 26th place out of 38 teams.


The men were led by Frank Ngeno, who earned a 76th place finish. The junior finished the 10K course in 31:56.


Gary Lackey wasn't far behind, earning 111th place with a time of 32:34, while Billy Giano finished 115th in 32:37.


Josh Rogers finished in 32:54 and notched 128th place. Justin Kauffman finished in 136th place in 33:07.


Blair Casey rounded out the field for the Mean Green with a 137th place finish with a time of 33:07.


On the women's side, Jill Brennan led the way for North Texas. The junior finished in 97th place with a time of 22:59.


Cassie Storms and Michelle Gallegos finished 143rd and 161st respectively. Storms recorded a time of 22:38, while Gallegos finished in 23:53.


With a time of 24:03, Alex Sherwin finished in 166th place, and Ashley Sanders finished in 188th place with a time of 24:34.


The Mean Green will take a week off before heading to the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Miami on Oct. 29.
