Cross Country Teams Prep For Sam Houston Invitational

DENTON, Texas (10/15/09) - The Mean Green cross country teams will take to the course one final time at the Sam Houston Invitational this Saturday before they compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Monroe, Louisiana on Halloween.

"We have run this course in the past and it has all the attributes we want for the last meet before conference," North Texas cross country head coach Robert Vaughan said. "It's also convenient because the travel isn't taxing. The race distances are less than the conference meet so the athletes will have time to recover before Oct. 31."

Two weeks ago the men were missing four runners due to illness; however they will have a full seven-man squad on Saturday. Meanwhile the women's team is coming off a first-place finish at the North Texas Invitational, led by junior Ingrid Mollenkompf (1st-18:44) and Sallie Anderson (2nd-19:18).

The races from Kate Barr-Ross Memorial Park will get underway Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with a 6,200m race, followed by the women's 4,850m at 9:00 a.m.
