DENTON, Tex. (10/4/07) The North Texas cross country team is back in action this weekend in one of the largest meets in the nation at the Brooks/Memphis Twilight. The meet features over 47 collegiate teams and 350 athletes from around the country competing.
The North Texas men’s team has a chance to measure up against some Sun Belt competition as they will face UALR, Arkansas State, and defending conference champion South Alabama.
Led by freshman Patrick Strong and senior Frank Ngeno, the men’s team has moved up in the South Central Region rankings. The Mean Green is currently ranked 9th in the coach’s poll and looking to rise even further heading into their final tune-up before the conference championship.
“This will be a great measuring stick for our men's and women's teams,” said North Texas head coach Rick Watkins. “We are looking forward to the challenge and I think we have a great chance to see how we stack up against some great competition”.
On the women’s side the Mean Green is still young but has seen progress throughout the season. The trio of Sallie Anderson, Michelle Gallegos and Jessica Torres have had two top-10 finishes this season.
The Brooks/Memphis Twilight takes place in the evening from the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The women start things off with a 5k race at 8:10 p.m. and the men begin their 8k race at 8:50 p.m.
