Cross Country To Host Mean Green Invitational

Mean Green Invitational Meet Information


Loaded with young talent, the Mean Green cross country teams return home to host the 28th annual North Texas Invitational at the Eagle Point Campus.


Led by a cast of newcomers, the Mean Green men look to repeat their championship effort from last season's meet.


"I think the men are looking to win the meet," said cross country coach Toby Reep. "They are really running well and they are showing me they can take meet."


Freshman Gary Lackey has posted the team's top times this season, finishing third at the UT-Arlington Invitational. Lackey notched a time of 20:45 in the four-mile event.


Frank Ngeno returns for his second year with the Mean Green after running the squad's top races last season. The junior also had a top ten finish in the UT-Arlington Invitational, earning sixth place with a time of 21:07.


Freshman Billy Giano finished tenth has also shown his leadership ability, finishing 10th at the last meet.


The women are led this season by juniors Jill Brennan and Cassie Storms and freshman Alex Sherwin.


Brennan led the Mean Green last season, and finished sixth in the season's opening meet in a time of 11:24.


Storms and Sherwin finished neck-and-neck in 18th and 20th place respectively at the UT-Arlington Invitational. Storms, a senior, finished in 12:06 while the freshman, Sherwin, crossed the line in 12:17.


"I think the women are already competitive, but they know there is room for improvement," Reep said.


The North Texas Invitational will take place at the Eagle Point Campus adjoining the North Texas Athletics Center on S. Bonnie Brea Street this Saturday.


The Mean Green will be competing against TCU, UT-Arlington, Tarleton, SMU and Midwestern.
