North Texas Dominates In Victory At UALR Invitational

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The North Texas women's cross country team blazed the field at the UALR Invitational with the top three runners on their way to winning the event. Jessica Schmidt lead the way as she took the top spot in the 5k race with a time of 18:09. Dagmar Salazar finished in second place with a time of 18:56 and true freshman Bonnie McKernan ended race very strong with a time of 19:15 to place third overall.

"I thought our women ran a great race today. We ran really well against some of the top Sun Belt Conference teams and gained a lot of confidence," said North Texas head coach Rick Watkins. "McKernan ran a great second half of the race and she really make up a lot of time."

The North Texas women finished the team competition with 31 points. Arkansas Tech was second with 43 while Western Kentucky finished third and Arkansas-Little Rock was fourth.

On the men's side Josh Rogers led the way in the 8k race with a time of 26:55 to place ninth overall. Jason Bacchus was 15th with a time of 28:06 and Brad Thompson earned a top 20 finish with a time of 28:58 to place 19th.

The men and women's cross country teams are back in action on October 11 as they host the Mean Green Open at the UNT Research Park.


 

 

North Texas Mean Green
