Video: Cross Country to Host Ranked Teams at Ken Garland Saturday

Sept. 22, 2014

The North Texas cross-country program is holding strong this season, as regional rankings have placed the men's team seventh and the women's team ninth in the South Central Region.

North Texas will host Rice, TCU, SMU, and UTSA, who are also ranked in the South Central Region, this Saturday at the Ken Garland Invitational.

"We are excited to have several C-USA teams competing at the Ken Garland Invitational this year, said North Texas cross country coach Stefanie Slekis.  "With SMU and TCU also attending it should lead to one of the most competitive collegiate women's field that the Ken Garland Invitational has seen in recent years."

North Texas will also host the Conference USA Championships for the second time in a row on Nov. 1. At last year's championships, men placed second and women placed third.

"We couldn't ask for a better opportunity on our conference cross-country course than to face defending champion UTSA, and Rice, who has already shown that they will be one of the key teams to beat in November," said Slekis.

North Texas will also host a Community 5K on Saturday. It will take place after the collegiate and high school events.

"I'm also really excited about hosting our first Community 5k on the home cross-country course," said Slekis. "It should be a great morning with the high school, collegiate, and community races."
