Susannah Lynch Named C-USA Athlete Of The Week
Lynch Finished First At Ken Garland Invitational
DENTON -- Sophomore cross country runner Susannah Lynch was named Conference USA cross country female Athlete of the Week after a first-place performance at the Ken Garland Invitational this past weekend.
Lynch led the women's team to its first Ken Garland invitational title since 2010. Lynch took home her first individual title with a time of 18:01.3 defeating runners from Oklahoma, TCU, Baylor, UT Arlington and Abilene Christian.
"This recognition will give Susannah a lot of confidence moving forward that she can compete with the top women in our conference on October 29th," cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. "When Susannah set her goals for the season we spoke about being able to put herself in position at the conference championship to be competing for top honors all the way to the finish line."
The Wellington, New Zealand native, is off to a fast start in cross country after opening the season with a 10th place finish at the Baylor Twilight invitational. Arriving to North Texas last January, Lynch is hoping to take the women's cross country team to new heights in her first collegiate cross country season.
"It was great for her to be the top collegiate finisher at our home meet and to receive these honors before heading into the Chile Pepper Festival, where she will be able to test herself against some of the best women in the NCAA South Central Region," Slekis added.
North Texas will be back in action Oct. 1 at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by Arkansas.
