DENTON, Tex. (9/15/07) It was freshman Patrick Strong once again powering the North Texas men’s cross country team to a second place finish at the 30th North Texas Invitational from the Eagle Point Campus. Strong, who won last week in his first Division I race, finished in second place individually with a time of 25:17 in the 8k race.
As a team North Texas was behind only Baylor, who is ranked 5th in the South Central Region. The Mean Green is ranked 12th in that same poll. TCU finished in third followed by Northwood and UT-Dallas.
Senior Frank Ngeno was solid as usual for North Texas with a top five finish and a time of 25:42 to take fifth place. Billy Giano had the third top 10 finish for North Texas with a ninth place time of 26:24. Daniel Holobowicz, Brandon Cooper, and Tayo Harriman in finished in that order for the Mean Green with times of 27:17, 27:35, and 27:41.
On the women’s side the Mean Green had three top 10 finishes and two in the top 5. Freshman Sallie Anderson led the way in the 5k race with a fourth place time of 19:24. Just seconds behind Anderson was Michelle Gallegos at 19:26 to finish in fifth place.
Jessica Torres had a strong meet with a time of 19:44 to take home ninth place. Emily Sotelo earned a top 20 finish with a time of 20:19 to finish in 19th place. TCU won the women’s team event while North Texas finished in third place.
The cross country teams are back in action on October 5 at the Memphis Twilight.
