Men's Cross Country Notches Second Place Finish

ARLINGTON, TX (9/10/05) - Three top-ten finishers earned the North Texas men's cross country team a second place finish at the UT-Arlington Invitational.


Freshman Gary Lackey led the Mean Green with a third place finish. The newcomer finished third in the four mile race with a time of 20:45.


Frank Ngeno and Billy Giano also notched top-10 finishes for the Mean Green. Ngeno, a junior finished sixth with a time of 21:07 and Giano, a freshman, came in eighth with a time of 21:25.


"Overall I think this meet went pretty well," said North Texas cross country coach Toby Reep. "I think the men are right there where we want them to be and we aren't even firing on all cylinders yet."


Senior Justin Kauffman notched a 12th place finish in 21:37, while freshman Blair Casey came in 20th in 22:19.


Josh Rogers rounded out the field for North Texas with a 26th place finish in 22:56.


The Mean Green women earned a fourth place finish at the two mile course at Vandergriff Park.


Jill Brennan had the top finish for the Mean Green in a time of 11:24. The junior picked up right where she left off last season, grabbing a sixth place finish.


Cassie Storms and Alex Sherwin finished neck-and-neck in 18th and 20th place respectively. Storms, a senior, finished in 12:06 while the freshman, Sherwin, crossed the line in 12:17.


Freshman Michelle Gallegos finished 27th in a time of 12:34 and fellow freshman Ashley Sanders finished 34th with a time of 12:58.


Jessica Schmidt rounded out the field for the women with a 41st place finish in 13:45.


The Mean Green returns home to host the 28th annual North Texas Invitational on October 1.
