DENTON (9/9/06) - The North Texas men’s cross country team tied TCU for a second place finish in the 29th annual North Texas Invitational meet, which featured regional powers such as TCU and UTA and nationally ranked Baylor.
Senior Frank Ngeno earned a top-ten finish placing eighth with a time of 20:48.95. Following close behind him in 12th and 13th place were veterans Billy Giano and Josh Rogers.
The women’s cross country team finished fifth. Leading the North Texas pack with a time of 12:15.79 was sophomore Michelle Gallegos. Following closely behind with a time of 12:35.54 was senior Jill Brennan. Amanda Kean, the team’s only freshman, finished third out of North Texas runners with a score of 12:47.35.
Baylor’s men and women teams swept both team titles.
“I was pleased with the way that we ran on both sides today,” Head coach Rick Watkins said, “The men had a good team showing and I was happy that Frank had a top-ten finish. The thing I was most pleased with was that we were able to go out and compete with good competition. We still have a lot to work on but I like the way we’re progressing.”
The Mean Green are back in action Saturday, Sept. 23 at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Open.
