Strong Wins The UTA Maverick Challenge

ARLINGTON, Tex. (9/8/07) Talk about a strong start, freshman Patrick Strong won the UTA Maverick Challenge to begin the 2007 cross country season for North Texas. Strong ran a time of 20:31 in the four mile race to win the race, 23 seconds ahead of his nearest competition.


The Mean Green placed four runners in the top 10, as Frank Ngeno had a time of 21:08 to finish in fourth place. Sophomore Brandon Cooper took seventh place with a time of 21:38 and Tayo Harriman finished in ninth place with a time of 21:56.


On the women’s side the Mean Green had three runners place in the top 10 led by Jessica Torres and Michelle Gallegos. Torres ran the two-mile race in a time of 12:18 to finish in seventh place while Gallegos was just two seconds behind at 12:20 to take eighth place. Salli Anderson had a 10th place finish with a time of 12:23.


North Texas is back in action next weekend as they host the 30th annual UNT Invitational at the Eagle Point Course.
