Cross Country Set to Open Season at UTA

DENTON, Texas (9/7/12) - The North Texas men's cross country team will open the 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Arlington to participate in the UT Arlington Season Opener.

The meet begins Saturday morning at 8 with the women's two-mile race followed by the men's three-mile race at 8:15. The meet will take place at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.

The Mean Green will compete against UT Arlington, Baylor, Northwood and Texas Wesleyan.

The women are coming off a second-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference, while the men look to improve from their seventh-place finish. The men are led by senior Matt Russ, who finished 27th at the SBC Championships and 49th at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship. Track star Jo Adams leads the women. Adams won two medals at the SBC Outdoor Championships on her way to qualifying for the United Kingdom Olympic Trials.

The next meet for the cross country teams will be when they host the Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15.
