DENTON, Texas (9/6/08) Billy Giano and Brandon Cooper helped lead the North Texas men’s cross country team to a third place finish in the 4k race at the 31st North Texas Invitational from the Eagle Point Campus. Giano finished in fifth place individually with a time of 21:23 while Cooper came in seventh at 21:57.
The University of Texas-Arlington took home first place with 35 total points, followed by Northwood with 47. North Texas finished with 64 points followed last by TCU with 75.
Matt Peters also was solid finishing 11th with a time of 22:15. Garrett Sage and Joey Manning rounded out the men’s side with times of 22:34 and 23:34 respectively. It should be noted that North Texas did not run their reigning Freshman of the Year Patrick Strong as they intend to keep him as fresh as possible for the stretch run.
On the women’s side Sarah Deitz led the way with a top 20 finish with a time of 12:19 to finish in 14th place in the 2k race. Amanda Kean and Sallie Anderson followed Deitz with times of 12:32 and 12:45 to finish 16th and 19th respectively. Phanice Orora, Carlene Mayfield, Tara Piles, Alex Sherwin and Britni Doolie finished in that order for the Mean Green with times of 13:01, 13:26, 13:28, 13:37, and 14:28.
TCU won the women’s team event while North Texas finished in fourth place.
The cross country teams will be back at it on September 27 at the Ken Garland Invitational at 8:30 a.m. at Eagle Point Campus.
