Gieringer Paces Men's Cross Crounty Team in Opener

ARLINGTON (9/6/03)- The North Texas Cross Country teams got off the 2003 season underway with impressive performances at the UTA Opener. On the men’s side Matt Gieringer paced the Mean Green in the four-mile race with a time 21:00 to finish in 6th place overall.

  Josh Rogers also earned a top 10 finish with a time of 21:27 to place ninth overall. Brad Thompson had a time of 22:17 to finish in 16th place and Logan Newall placed 18th with a time of 22:51. The North Texas men had five top 20 finishes for the day as the team finished in third place at the meet.

  Jessica Schmidt led the way for the North Texas women with a time of 11:23 in the two-mile race and placed 6th individually. Jill Brennan was only a few seconds behind the pace with a time of 11:40 to end in the 12th place and Bonnie McKernan was 13th at 11:51. Dagmar Salazar continued the well-balanced day for the women with a time of 11:57 to place 14th.

  The women as a team finished in third place behind Texas Tech and SMU.

  The Mean Green Cross Country teams are back in action when they host the 26th annual UNT Invitational on September 13 at the UNT Research Park.



North Texas Mean Green
