DENTON, Texas (9/3/09) - The North Texas cross country teams will open the 2009 season on Saturday when they travel to Fort Worth to take part in the first annual TCU Cross Country Opener.
Everything gets under way at 8:15 a.m. when the men's team competes in the four-mile race, followed by the women's two-mile race at 8:45 a.m. The meet will take place beside the Trinity River and behind LaGrave Field.
The field this weekend will consist of four teams (North Texas, SMU, TCU and UTA) on the women's side and three (North Texas, TCU, UTA) for the men.
Last season the men finished third in the Sun Belt Conference while the women were fourth place. The top two runners for each respective team return in junior Patrick Strong and sophomore Sara Dietz. Strong earned all-conference honors last season by finishing third at the SBC Championships while Dietz was named the Freshman of the Year after her 10th place finish in Bowling Green.

The next meet for the cross country teams will be one of their own, when North Texas hosts the annual Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19.
