WACO, Tex. -The North Texas men’s cross country team kicked off the season last Friday, with a top-ten finish by seniors Frank Ngeno and Josh Rogers who finished in eighth place out of 20 teams. The meet was relay-style, where runners were paired with another member of their team, and their times were combined for a final score.
Coming in just shy of a top-ten finish were underclassmen Billy Giano and Brandon Cooper with an 11th-place finish and a time of 40.16.83. The last NT men’s team was Daniel Holobowicz and Matthew Peters wth a time of 42.32.18.
Experience is a rare commodity on the North Texas women’s cross country team with five of six members being underclassmen. The season is off to a start with the three NT teams finishing in 17th place, 21st place and 23rd place out of 27 teams.
The first team consisted of senior Jill Brennan and sophomore Phanice Orora with a combined time of 32.26.73. The second team was sophomores Michelle Gallegos and Alex Sherwin with a time of 33.24.03. The final NT team was sophomore Ashley Sanders and freshman Amanda Kean with a final time of 33.52.68.
The cross country teams will next be in action next weekend at the 29th annual UNT Invitational. It will take place this Saturday, September 9th in Denton, Texas. It is the longest running single event NT has ever hosted.
