Cross Country Teams Fare Well at Bear Relays

Waco (9/3/04)- The North Texas Cross Country teams fared well Friday night at the Bear Relays in Waco, Tx.
The four team event was a relay-style race, with the women's teams running a 2 x 3k race and the men running a 2 x 6k race.
"I really like the way we competed tonight," said Mean Green Head Coach Rick Watkins. "I think this gave us a really good look at how much talent is on this team."
The women's team of Bonnie McKernan and Jill Brenan had the top time for the Mean Green, finishing fourth with time of 28:54.
Dagmar Salazar and Michelle Hurn finished eighth with a time of 30:18, while Jordan Skelton and Cassie Storms ran a 32:03 and claimed 12th place.
On the men's side, Matt Gieringer and Justin Kaufman had the fastest time for North Texas running 38:33 and notching fifth place.
Newcomer Frank Ngeno and Josh Rogers finished just behing the Gieringer/Kaufman team, claiming seventh place with a 38:59.
Michael Hernandez and Sean Covington combined for a 40:29 and 11th place, and just behind them was Logan Newell and Jose Zubia finishing 12th with a 40:36.
The Mean Green runners competed against teams from UT-Arlington and Baylor.
The Mean Green will return to action on Sept. 11 when they host the North Texas Invitational.
