Cross Country Ready To Begin New Season

DENTON, Tex. (8/31/06) -The 2006 cross country season begins Sept. 1 for the Mean Green as it races at the Bear Cross Country Relay in Waco, Texas.

Heading into the new season, the North Texas cross-country teams look to build upon a successful 2005 season. The Mean Green men's team finished as runners-up at last year’s Sun Belt Conference Championships, and capped off the season with a ninth-place finish at the South Central Regional Championships.

They are led by seniors Frank Ngeno, and Josh Rogers.  Both are past all-conference performers and will be looked upon to give the Mean Green strong senior leadership.   Returning sophmores Billy Giano and Gary Lackey are coming off of impressive freshman campaigns, both posting top-10 finishes in 2005.

With solid contributions from freshman Brandon Cooper and Daniel Holobowicz, North Texas hopes to be in title contention in October.

The youthful women’s team is coming off of a fourth-place finish at last year’s Sun Belt Championship, and are searching for their first-ever conference championship in cross-country.  Jill Brennan, an All-Sun Belt Conference performer the past two seasons, is the lone senior, and posted three top-10 finishes in 2005.

Returning sophmores Michelle Gallegos, Alex Sherwin and Ashley Sanders look to improve on a solid freshman season.   Newcomers Phanice Orora (Transfer, UTEP), and Amanda Kean (Freshman) hope to provide the boost the Mean Green needs to climb to the top of the Sun Belt Conference.
