DENTON – The North Texas men’s and women’s cross country teams were both ranked in the top ten in the regional preseason poll.
The men were ranked sixth and the women opened in the ninth position in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) South Central poll.
“We are excited to start the season ranked where our teams finished last year at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship, “said North Texas cross-country coach Stefanie Slekis
. “Last year’s teams had the best cross country season in at least the last 10 years of North Texas history, and we are looking forward to building off of a tremendous track season.”
The men’s team returns all but one runner from the squad that ran at regionals. Junior Troy Taylor
returns for his junior year after placing ninth at last year’s conference championship. They also added five newcomers who are expected to make an impact.
On the women’s side, North Texas returns five runners from last year’s team, including senior Charlotte Wilson
who took sixth at last year’s conference championship. “Both teams have looked strong in our pre-season workouts and are ready to test their fitness at the Baylor Twilight Invitational this Friday,” said Slekis.
Both teams will compete at the Baylor Twilight Invitational on Friday night in Waco, Texas. The men’s team placed first last year in this race, while the women finished fifth.
