DENTON – The North Texas cross country team released its schedule for the 2015 season, including dates at Baylor. Texas A&M and Texas this upcoming fall.

“I am really looking forward to seeing Texas A&M’s new course at the end of September since they will be hosting the NCAA South Central Regional Championship,” said head cross country coach Stefanie Slekis. “I am also excited for another new meet this year at the University of Texas, which gives us an opportunity to test ourselves outside of just the south central region. Of course the men’s trip to pre-nationals will be a major highlight as well."

The Mean Green won the Conference USA Championship last fall on the men’s side and the women placed third leading to high expectations for both squads this upcoming campaign. Four seniors will hope to defend the men’s conference title led by Troy Taylor who qualified for NCAA Nationals after an eighth-place finish at the South Central Regionals last season.

“We have four outstanding seniors that will lead what we’re hoping will be a year to remember in North Texas cross country history,” said Slekis.

“Troy has competed at the National meet finishing all-region and all-conference. Not to mention teammate Silvester Harrison, who was all-region and a all-conference performer last season. Bryce McAndrew made all-conference and Alexander Hita was all-conference in track & field. I am looking forward to seeing those four seniors push the rest of the team to new heights.”

On the women’s side, the team returns 10 upperclassmen from last year after placing third in the Conference USA Championship.

“I am especially excited to see what our returners can accomplish in cross country since so many of them set personal bests on the track this past spring,” said Slekis. “Shauna Pali ran a 26 second 3k PR taking third at C-USA indoor, Magdalena Escobar had a five second personal best 1500m taking fifth at C-USA outdoor and Christina Moralez ran a 11 second personal best in the 1500m making the C-USA outdoor final. It will be exciting to see how their new track speed translates on the cross country course.”

North Texas will travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky for the Conference USA Championship hosted by Western Kentucky.

The men’s team will travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Louisville, also where the NCAA Cross Country Championship will take place, giving the men an opportunity to prepare for the championships. The men’s team finished fourth at the NCAA Division I South Central Regionals last season.
